Description
A real bone skull of a Feral Hog/Domestic Pig (Sus scrofa) also known as Wild Boar--in this case from Texas. The skull was beetle cleaned and whitened and degreased with strong peroxide. The skull is complete with mandible and has most of its teeth-- it is missing a few molars and two incisors--but that appears to be natural wear and loss--this is a big pig--it was a bruiser! The fighting tusks are about an inch in length. There is a serious hole in the back of the head--it has been repaired a bit, but apparently these are tough to kill, so it took a blow to the head. There is bone missing from this spot and the underside because of the trauma. It does have its atlas however! It is an older skull and there is some yellowing--but all together a pretty nice example of the species--for its size and because is displays well from the side. Please note there may be other damage or flaws I cannot see as this was a living thing, and living things rarely show perfection in death. The skull is quite sturdy and would make scientific/hands on model or for artwork. The skull is over 14 inches long and stands about 8.5 inches tall. This was a big boar--impressive even with the flaws. Please not that this animal is not a CITES species nor is it a part of the Endangered Species list. This is a feral animal that is considered a pest in most of the places where they have colonized. This skull was also not specifically taken for its skull, but is a by-product of legal hunting and eradication for human consumption, making it perfectly legal to own and sell this animal skull. Plus you are helping the ecosystem by supporting the purchase of these feral animal skulls!
