This is an attractive 1934 silver
"Junk Dollar",
actually a
"One Yuan"
coin from the
"Republic of China"
.
These were only struck in 1933 & 1934 at the Shanghai mint, however, in 1949, more of the 1934 date were restruck in the United States. The Chinese and US varieties are generally indistinguishable. There also exists a rare
"6 Ropes"
variety.
"Who's on First?"
At the end of the millennial old
"Empire of China,"
Sun Yat-sen had been elected the first
"Provisional"
President of China but he had no army. General Yuan Shikai, who had negotiated the abdication of the last
"Emperor of China"
and
had an army
became the first President of the
"Republic of China"
while Sun Yat-sen went to Japan. Yuan Shikai tried to restore the monarchy with himself as Emperor but died in 1916. Sun Yat-sen came back and became the
"First"
legitimate President of China.

The Coin:
A choice piece, it saw a few hands and earned some small nicks and scratches. It is still bright white and displays cartwheel luster so it is still fully original, and has never been cleaned. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
